I thought it would never happen, but holy crabs, I wrote a Christmas song. This tune was composed in a Motel 6 in Wichita Falls while my car was in a garage up there, and I wasn't sure when I was going to get back home. I've always felt that the more melancholy holiday tunes are the best ones, so here's my attempt at adding to that catalog.

Lyrics

CHORUS:
If I don't come home for Christmas
There's somewhere I needed to be
Far from the dearly familiar
Learning to love the unseen
My dog's in the fight and he's losing
My garden has all gone to seed
If I don't come home for Christmas
There's somewhere I needed to be

I looked up from my book and I saw
The house was on fire
And I told it to go away
I don't have the time or a hose
And the phone only calls the police
It goes directly to robots
Your call is important to us
Most likely, please hold

(CHORUS)

I haven't put up my lights
For maybe a decade
There's only one window facing the street
And no room for a tree
When the spirit's not willing, the flesh isn't weak
It's just trying to find the instructions
Here Be Dragons say all of the maps
And the compass can't find the receipts

(CHORUS)

So I hope you have a good one
Eat more pie than you should
Don't worry about where I'm going
Just hope it's somewhere good
I never was born to stay planted
This dirt never wanted me anyway
Take a sip off the nog for auld lang syne
And remember when I used to say

(CHORUS)
