the matthew show revisited: The Dull Version of You

the matthew show revisited: week fourteen
I've lived a double life for most of my span on this planet. Being an office drone and also a musician, or being a musician and also a stay-at-home dad, or being some combo of all three, plus other roles thrown in at odd intervals as circumstances warrant. In each of these incarnations, the face that is acceptable to present is slightly different. I know I'm not alone in this conundrum, and somewhere in discussing the multiplicity of human behavior with many people over the years, this tune popped out.
In the summer of 2016, the band and I were slated to record an EP at Ardent Studios in Memphis with a semi-famous person at the helm, one whose credits you would probably recognize. His personal life took a bit of a turn at that moment, and so we went ahead and did the session ourselves, despite it being the selfsame summer that my stomach took its own turn for several months, where I lost fifty pounds and kind of wondered if I was going to make it. With all the other events of 2016 swirling in the ether, I didn't get around to having these tunes mixed till a few years after. Huge thanks to engineer extraordinaire Adam Hill for sticking with us through the bumps.
Here's to getting the most out of all our lives.
