the matthew show revisited: week five
After the whirlwind of 2012, the following year was even more hectic on quite a few fronts, most of them not matthew show related. I worked on albums with Fish Fry Bingo, James Dunn & the Western Set, and the inimitable Pookie on his debut outing. It kind of felt like the world was less interested in what music I could create on my own, and I wondered a bit if I was done with that portion of my career. However, I did have a few songs lying around that I didn't want to get blown away by the winds of time, so I put out a small EP called Inklings, which also included offerings by my band members at the time.
This tune was one of my favorites, both lyrically and musically, and I remember being somewhat surprised when the few people I showed it to mid-production really liked it. In my head, I had already pivoted to being a prose writer, having written about half of Rewired and feeling a strong buzz of creativity in that vein, so what I'd meant as a coda ended up having a little shine on it after all. As it would ultimately turn out, I wasn't done with writing songs at all. Silly me.
Enjoy.
